COGAT, the Israeli military body in charge of coordinating aid to Gaza, said in a statement that starting on Sunday a "limited movement of people only" would be allowed through the Rafah crossing, Gaza's main gateway to the outside world.
Sick and wounded patients in Gaza desperate for medical evacuation have pinned their hopes on the promised reopening of the enclave's Rafah border crossing with Egypt.
"We are at war. And even if a thousand people are killed by friendly fire, that is the price of war," PIJ's Akram al-Ajouri reportedly said.
The gateway to the world for Palestinians in Gaza — the Rafah border crossing to Egypt — is set to reopen Sunday after being largely shut since it was seized by Israel in May 2024.
