As the Fourth of July holiday approaches and families are planning beach time, some people on Long Island have lingering fears of the ocean.

A 20-year-old woman suffered minor injuries when she was apparently bitten by a sand tiger shark while standing in waist-deep water, according to officials.

While common sense is urged in the water, "we will do everything to keep you safe," County Executive Bruce Blakeman said.
