A shark has washed ashore on a beach in Southampton just days before the Fourth of July holiday. A woman is recovering after officials say she was likely bitten and injured by a young sand tiger shark during a summertime beach trip off the Long Island coast.

The woman had minor cuts to her left foot and leg after being bitten on Wednesday. She was transported to a hospital for injuries that were not life-threatening, officials said.
