President Donald Trump's administration is considering cutting most of the lawyers in the U.S. Justice Department unit that handles public corruption cases, four people familiar with the matter said on Tuesday.

Prosecutors in the DOJ that handle public corruption cases have been told the unit will be signification reduced, and that its case will be transferred to US attorney's offices around the country.

Prosecutors in the Public Integrity Section, once home to dozens of attorneys, have reportedly been informed that the unit will no longer directly handle investigations or prosecutions.
