The Butte Creek fire, burning 30 miles northwest of Madras, also started Friday, this one on the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs Reservation. It has grown to 2,000 acres and is 5% contained, according to the Northwest Interagency Coordination Center. No homes have been burned.

The fire, which broke out on July 13, exploded in size over recent days due to hot and dry conditions and gusty winds in parts of the state.

The Cram Fire in Oregon has burned over 95,000 acres. It could become a “megafire,” signaling it has burned 100,000 acres, in the near future. Centered in rural Oregon, the fire has not destroyed as many buildings as some smaller fires in California.
