SEC commissioner Greg Sankey is in favor of a nine-game conference schedule. But College Football Playoff bids are a concern.

In his newsletter Tuesday, basketball analyst Ken Pomeroy questioned whether the SEC is “overrated” this season despite emerging as the top conference in the country. CBS Sports’ Danny Kanell posted a screenshot agreeing with the column – and it led to a response from SEC commissioner Greg Sankey.

Greg Sankey is never one to shy away from media personalities taking shots at his conference, and Danny Kanell was the latest victim.

SEC commissioner Greg Sankey confirmed Monday that he’s in favor of his conference going to a nine-game football schedule. That declaration, the furthest Sankey has seemed to go publicly, came with a caveat: as long as it doesn’t hurt SEC teams trying to get in the College Football Playoff.
