Rafael Caro Quintero, an alleged cartel boss who spent decades in prison in Mexico for the murder of a U.S. drug enforcement agent, pleaded not guilty in a U.S. court on Friday.

Trump designated drug cartels terrorist organizations and Mexico extradited 29 alleged members, one a suspect in a notorious DEA killing in 1985.

The Mexican drug kingpin who was brought to the United States on Thursday is accused in the 1985 kidnapping, torture and murder of DEA agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena.

Mexico's attorney general's office and the security ministry confirmed that officials were handing over 29 cartel figures to the U.S.

Mexico has sent Quintero and 28 other cartel figures to the U.S. as the Trump Administration turns up the pressure on drug trafficking organizations.

The extradition comes as top Mexican officials are in Washington trying to head off the Trump administration's threat of imposing 25% tariffs on all Mexican imports starting Tuesday.

Mexico has extradited dozens of drug cartel figures to the U.S., including Rafael Caro Quintero -- who was behind the kidnapping and murder of DEA agent Enrique "Kiki" Camarena.

As Mexico and the U.S. negotiate trade tariffs, the Mexican government has handed over 29 cartel leaders and members who were wanted in the U.S.
