The announcement of the singer and dancer making it into the class was made by Ryan Seacrest on April 27's episode of "American Idol."

The Queen Village native's hit – and dance move – swept the nation in 1960, fueled in part by his appearances on Dick Clark's 'American Bandstand.'

First-time nominees Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker and Bad Company will be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
