There are 198 cases of measles across Texas and the South Plains, with 94% of cases in six counties, and the best way to prevent getting sick is to be immunized with two doses of a vaccine against measles.

The update raised the number of confirmed cases since January to 198, with 23 patients hospitalized. At least two people have died — an unvaccinated person in New Mexico and an unvaccinated child in Lubbock.

A second person with measles died, but the official cause of death hasn’t been determined.
