The special envoy of US President Donald Trump, Steve Witkoff, said on Thursday that the US is cutting short Gaza ceasefire talks and bringing home its negotiating team from Qatar for consultations, reports news agency AP.

Special Envoy Steve Witkoff is set to meet with Israeli and Qatari officials as the Trump administration works to secure a deal to end the war in Gaza.

Hamas has rejected a 60-day Gaza ceasefire proposal, a senior official in Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office told reporters Saturday.

During the tense meeting, the mediators made it clear to Hamas leaders that “if you don’t return with a serious response, your problem will be with us - the mediators.”

Senior Hamas officials in Doha are reportedly inclined to support the deal on the table, but no response has been received from Hamas's military leadership in Gaza, N12 noted.
