BLUE EYED SOUL -- At age 17 singer ELLA MAE MORSE had a hit with Freddie Slack's Orchestra on a Western tune with a swing arrangement called, "Cow, Cow Boogie" (1942) Here, at age 29 Ella Mae sings it on Liberace's 1954 television show. Because she was unknown when her hit record came out people who heard it assumed Ella Mae was black due to her hip, jive singing style. But she was a Texas woman for whom R & B style came naturally.
