Today at Ni’ihau a new curious hawaiian monk seal showed up that was absolutely covered in cookie cutter scars. I definitely had never seen this one before. He was scared or didn’t like the sandbar sharks 🤣 This definitely had me cracking up when he punked the shark🤣 Has a monk seal ever made you laugh before? While diving at Ni’ihau last week, we observed three Hawaiian monk seals in what appeared to be an argument. Two male seals swam in front of me and rested approximately 50 feet apart, unusually close for male seals underwater. A third male was vocalizing and more active. One of the seals appeared to be a new individual we haven’t seen before and had a noticeable scar on its back. Does anyone have ideas on how this scar might have occurred?
