From 1979 to 1987, Amtrak took delivery of 54 AEM-7 type electric locomotives for use in the Northeastern US. These locomotives were based on a Swedish locomotive known as the Rc-4 and were built as a partnership between General Motors’ Electromotive Division (EMD) and Swedish company ASEA.
